Why snoozing your alarm isn't the best way to start your day.

Snoozing your alarm clock is the biggest mistake you can make. How you spend the first 30 minutes of your day decides the next 23 hours and 30 minutes. In the digital age, most of us spend our first waking moments checking notifications, reading messages, and scrolling online. This often is paired with extended periods of lying in bed, snoozing the alarm and avoiding leaving the warm comfort of the covers. Although this sounds like a wonderful, relaxing, low stress way to start the day, it is not actually the healthiest start to the day!
Win the morning, win the day. This is a great affirmation to set yourself up for success from the moment you wake up. By snoozing your alarm clock, you are choosing to not complete your first task of the day: waking up. This can very easily snowball into extended time lying in bed, grogginess, skipping breakfast, being late to work, and being grumpy because you skipped breakfast. The reason that you snoozed your alarm was probably because you did not get enough sleep the night before, which is probably because you did the same thing the previous morning - it is an endless loop. Now, this sounds like a lot of pressure for first thing in the morning. But in reality, the whole idea of 'winning the morning' is how small, manageable tasks act as building blocks for you to tackle the harder, more complex tasks. For example;
Eating breakfast leads to improved energy levels
Getting out of bed promptly in the morning improves your ability to concentrate throughout the day
Making your bed starts your day with an accomplishment.
Starting the day with a clear mind, a sense of accomplishment, and stable energy levels makes it significantly easier to face tasks such as writing that proposal for work, doing your budget, or even dealing with that pile of dirty dishes from the week.
The best part of winning the morning, is that it is cumulative - meaning the more you do, the more you will be able to do! Soon you will find that you have much more time in your day to enjoy activities like going for a walk, practicing gratitude, or cooking your favourite meal. Your day will become much more fulfilling, and more than just the robotic routine of wake up - work - dinner - tv - sleep, repeat. Stop snoozing your alarm clock and make your days more worthwhile by starting them right!
