Measles Vaccination

Have you been vaccinated for the measles? Following the recent confirmed case of measles in Tāmaki Makaurau, we would like to highlight the importance of getting vaccinated.

Measles is a very infectious viral illness (easily spread from person to person) that can lead to serious complications for tamariki (children) and adults. The measles virus lives in the nose and throat mucus of an infected person and can be easily spread through coughing and sneezing. Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself, your whānau and community from catching and spreading measles.

The vaccination is usually given to babies, in two doses, at ages 12 months and 15 months.

If you have not had your measles vaccine, it is free for people up to age 32 or anyone born after 1968 that hasn’t had two doses.
